Painted with Tradition

Project

“Painted with Tradition” is a joint project by four artists from the Podkarpacie region. Alongside me, it was created by Magdalena Jankisz, Renata Masłyk and Elżbieta Salamon, with curatorial guidance by Dr Katarzyna Cwynar. Each of us speaks about tradition differently – as a memory, a structure, a symbol or a sensory experience. The aim was not to reproduce folklore, but to let it resound anew, in the contemporary language of painting.

In this project I returned to the Polish countryside seen through everyday rituals and personal memories. I combine oil painting with hand embroidery — in this pairing I look for the feminine and spiritual dimension of tradition. Among my inspirations was the prose of Wiesław Myśliwski.

The exhibition was presented in turn at:

Patronate

The event was held under the patronage of numerous cultural institutions, artistic bodies and local authorities. It was granted honorary patronage by regional and local government bodies, underlining its significance in the cultural life of the region.
